Please note that while there are currently no vacancies, the DeWitt Police Department is continually accepting applications and conducts officer testing on a yearly basis. 
The City of DeWitt offers: 
  • Base salary (after completion of the academy) of $63,128. In addition, full time officers may also receive shift differential, holiday pay, education bonus, uniform allowance and longevity pay
  • Lateral hire: Lateral hired officers will start at the wage rate that reflects their months of service, up to 8 years.
  • MFPRSI retirement system
  • Group medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Minimum requirements for employment are as follows:

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Resident of the State of Iowa or intend to become a resident upon being employed
  • Reside within 50 miles of DeWitt if selected
  • Have no previous felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Additionally, candidates must successfully pass the following: the Iowa POST test, ILEA physical agility test, a stringent background check, psychological test, physical exam (including drug screening).
