Mayor & Council

The Mayor and Council are the elected policy-makers for the City of DeWitt.  The Mayor serves a 4-year term and is the Chief Executive Officer of the City.  The Mayor presides over Council meetings, signs contracts, appointments board members, has veto authority and serves as the lead dignitary for the City.  The Mayor does not vote at Council meetings and does not exert direct control over day-to-day operations.

The City has 5 Council Member and they serve staggered 4-year terms.  Three Council members are elected at-large (by the entire City) and 2 are elected by wards.  The first ward is generally east of 8th Avenue and the second ward is west of 8th Avenue (see City Code Section 3.03 for complete description).  The Council collectively are the policy-makers for the City.  The Council determines the general direction of the City, set the budget, approve expenses, hire professional staff, and enter into contracts and agreements.

The Mayor and Council conduct the City's business at Council Meeting held the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month.  The meetings are open to the public with a publicly posted agenda.  The Agenda and all related documents can be found on this website for each Council meeting.
